Mission
The American Council on Exercise is a nonprofit organization committed to
promoting active, healthy lifestyles and their positive effects on the mind, body
and spirit. ACE pledges to enable all segments of society to enjoy the benefits of physical activity and to protect
the public against unqualified fitness professionals and unsafe or ineffective fitness products, programs and
trends.
Background
Established in 1985, ACE has emerged as a significant force in the field of physical fitness, growing from a small
operation to a full-service entity with a staff of more than 50. ACE accomplishes its mission by setting certification
and education standards for fitness professionals and through ongoing public education. ACE has certified more
than 250,000 fitness professionals in 77 countries. As the nation's "workout watchdog," ACE conducts university-
based research and testing that target fitness products and trends

The ACE Academy provides education and training for ACE and other fitness professionals through the
development, review and approval of both live and correspondence continuing education courseware across the
various areas of specialization in the field of exercise science. The ACE Academy offers opportunities for fitness
professionals to enhance their credentials at all levels in their area of personal and professional interest.
In addition, the ACE Academy assists the certification candidate with their preparation for ACE certification
through exam review courseware and the newly certified professional with hands-on practical training and career
development through various continuing education programs.
